Heading to San Francisco with the Net Zero Initiative
Carbone 4 invited you to join them from September 12 to 14, 2018, as part of the Global Climate Action Summit in San Francisco, for the launch of the NET ZERO INITIATIVE, in partnership with nine French companies: ENGIE, RATP, EDF, L’OREAL, ORANGE, BPCE, UNIMA, REMADE, and HAVAS PARIS.
Net Zero Initiative, it is a unique network of companies working to define a rigorous standard for carbon neutrality.
His No. 1 goal: establish THE carbon neutrality framework for organizations. To mark the occasion, we organized a conference and panel discussion titled “Make Zero Happen: Step Up to a Credible Carbon Neutrality” on Thursday, September 13, focusing on the theme “Make Zero Happen: Step Up to a Credible Carbon Neutrality.” Pioneering companies (Orange, ENGIE) and key players in climate action (Science Based Targets and The Gold Standard) were invited to discuss and debate what, more than anything else, embodies a company’s or city’s climate commitment: the net-zero goal.

About the Net Zero Initiative
The primary mission of the Net Zero Initiative, a 100% Paris Agreement collective, is to develop a methodology for organizations seeking to achieve rigorous, credible, and harmonized carbon neutrality. This future common framework is intended to be:
- demanding, because it finally prioritizes reducing emissions at the source
- sturdy, because it has been approved by a scientific advisory board composed of 12 experts
- credible, because it was developed collaboratively by companies from various sectors.
Explicitly mentioned in the Paris Climate Agreement as a goal to be achieved by the end of the century, carbon neutrality is a balance between greenhouse gas emissions and removals by carbon sinks. The longer we wait to reduce global net emissions to zero, the greater the likelihood of experiencing destructive events such as the deadly heat waves this summer in Japan or the unusual wildfires in Sweden, Greece, and California.
With the goal of Net Zero, the company has the opportunity to put its commitment to the climate into action, to turn “zero” into a positive and inspiring number, and to stimulate its creativity, as this approach requires it to stop viewing the fight against climate change as a set of limits that must not be exceeded, but rather as a goal to be achieved collectively. The initial results of this work will be shared at COP24.
